To Be With the Kids More Often

If you have children, and you want to be there for them more often, you can be home with them. You would not necessarily be able to spend every waking minute with them when you are home. After all, you still have work to do. However, just being there for your children can make you feel good as a parent. This is true whether you are a mom or a dad. Not only that, but it is easier for you and your spouse to plan family trips if one or both of you does not have to worry about asking off from work to go. This is a plus for any family, especially one with children, and is one of the goals of many people who work at home.


To Be Available in an Emergency

If you are a person who does not mind helping others and wants to be available in case your family or friends have an emergency running a home business can help make this happen. One word of caution, however, is to not get yourself caught up into too many "emergencies" that really are not emergencies. For instance, if your 80-year-old neighbor lady has a cat that is stuck in the top of a tree, you can call the fire department for you. They will be happy to oblige, as long as they don't have too many emergency fires to put out.


To Have More Freedom

If you do not have any children, but you want to travel, often times you may be able to take your work with you. This may be especially true if you are a freelance writer. Quite often writers will receive assignments, sometimes in which travel pay is included, to produce a high quality story. You will have the best of both worlds if your writing is good enough-the freedom to travel, and the ability to pick and choose the assignments you want. Writers are not the only ones who have the freedom of choice. If you work at home you have the choice whether or not you want to service a particular client or not. Generally speaking, it is a good idea if you do. However, if it is a job you absolutely would detest, you have the option of turning it down and referring that person elsewhere.


To Be Financially Free

This particular reason for starting a business is everyone's ultimate goal. This is more of a longer-term goal for most people who are in business for themselves, and for those who work at home. They want to be financially independent to the point they no longer have to work from day to day. This is possible, but it takes persistence and hard work, and it also takes building a positive report in the particular field of choice. Those who are dedicated to the cause they believe in, and for those who have cornered a particular niche or market for their product are the ones that are most likely to have this particular dream realized.


To Be Independent from Support

Some people are tired of having to live off of other people, or off of government funding. They want their personal pride back, and they want to earn for themselves. It can be a hard step to take for quite a few people who are so used to living off of a certain income. Not only that, but the early years of being in business for oneself can be very unpredictable. However, especially for those out of work because of a layoff or disability, they may feel they have no other choice, so they will do whatever it takes to succeed. If you are a person whose goal is to be independent from the financial support of friends or family, this may be your reason to go into business for yourself. This may be your best option, especially if you hate working for other people, and have accepted that starting and running a business requires hard work in the beginning.

To Give to Others

Some people who become more financially independent and secure from running their business will enjoy the opportunity to give to others. As you tap into your unlimited income potential the dream of being able to give to others financially will become reality. The one warning you should heed, however, is to remember that in the beginning you should have carefully scoped out all aspects of starting and running your business and your business's potential for growth and profit. If this is the case, you may make enough to support the other people and organizations that gave so much to you in the past. You may even want to give to others for the sake of giving as well.


To Be Able to Save Money

Saving money is so important, yet it is something that is very hard to do when you are living paycheck to paycheck. If you start a business even part time you may to be required to begin saving money anyway. Starting a business gives you that motivation to better your future. Not only that, but since many businesses have unlimited potential growth potential if they are set up and operated correctly, you will be able to create even more of a nest egg. This can be for retirement, for future emergency, or to put your children through college. It could also be for all three.

To Afford to Own Personal Property

Many people who start a business may want to do so they can realize their dream of owning their own home or vacation property. Not only that, but also these people may have the dream of being able to purchase that property using cash instead of taking out loans. They may also have a dream of purchasing a new quality car that they can use to transport themselves in. Owning and operating a successful business can help people earn enough money to make these dreams come true. Again, it takes quite a bit of work initially on the person who is starting the business. Over the years, however, that workload can be delegated onto others, and the person who started the business can take more and more time off, and enjoy the purchase of new personal property.

People may have other personal dreams that they want to fund as well. For instance, maybe you are a writer who would like to go on a National Geographic expedition. Either that or maybe you are a person who has a passion for helping the poor and wants to join an organization such as the Peace Corps or a church missionary group. All this requires money, and you can make that dream happen if you start and run your own business.
